Chinese Teaching ResourcesCI Local Resources | CI online Resources | Other Resources Confucius Institute Resource LibraryThe Confucius Institute Resource Library consists of a collection of around 3000 volumes held at the Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide. The collection consists of a variety of textbooks, teaching materials and other resources about Chinese culture, history and language. It is probably the best collection of Chinese language teaching materials in South Australia. The Confucius Institute is making these resources available to South Australian Chinese language teachers to borrow for limited periods. How do I use the Confucius Institute Resource Library? The Confucius Institute Resource Library is housed in the Confucius Institute at the University of Adelaide. Up to 5 books can be borrowed at once, for a period of 4 weeks. All borrowers are asked to pay a $50 deposit to cover replacement costs in case any books are not returned. This deposit will allow you continued access to the Confucius Institute Resource Library. It will only be processed if borrowed items are not returned to the Confucius Institute by their due date. When you no longer wish to access the Confucius Institute Resource Library your $50 deposit will be returned to you. Step 1: Call the Confucius Institute on 8303 4799 to make an appointment to visit the Confucius Institute Resource Library (this is important to make sure someone will be in the office when you come to borrow books) Step 2: If you have not already done so you will be asked to complete a registration form as well as pay the $50 deposit, which can be paid by cash or credit card Step 3: Browse through the resources and select five items to borrow for a maximum of four weeks. Step 4: Return the books by the due date to the Confucius Institute either in person or by post. DVD of Mr Wu Changming's Calligraphy and Painting DemonstrationDuring the month of August, 2007, the Confucius Institute hosted its first artist-in-residence, the painter and calligrapher Mr Wu Changming of Lijiang. As part of his visit to Adelaide Mr Wu gave calligraphy and painting demonstrations and workshops at many schools in and around Adelaide, as well as at the University of Adelaide and other community groups. In the course of his visit over 1000 people witnessed Mr Wu's demonstration of exquisite painting skills and his introduction to Chinese calligraphy. The unedited DVD contains an introduction to the origins of Chinese characters, a demonstration of the different styles of Chinese calligraphy, and a demonstration of bamboo painting. Certain sections may be useful to help demonstrate these aspects of Chinese language and culture. The Confucius Institute is now offering this DVD to schools and teachers at the minimal cost of $5 per copy. To purchase a copy or for more information please contact Glen at the Confucius Institute (8303 5819).
